The art of title design.

One of the things I pay attention to (and believe me when I say it is an odd scattershot amalgam of things that draw my attention) is title design. Whether it is a TV show or a movie, good title design can go a long way towards success or failure.

I always think of the opening to North by Northwest as an example of what it is when it is good (of course the fact that it was Saul Bass who was responsible for the film’s title sequence helped quite a bit).

The thing that has caught my eye of late is the opening to Showtime’s Masters of Sex (which has become a favorite). What is amazing is the marriage of a jaunty tune playing underneath a slew of images depicting sexual metaphors.
